Opening my garden for the National Garden Scheme.
I bet your garden is ‘all done’ and ready for your National garden scheme open garden event people say to me.
Those who ‘do’ their gardens know that gardens are never ‘finished’ the continue to grow and evolve every year.
It’s 3 years since I last opened for the National Garden Scheme and I think we can all say what a godsend out gardens have been over the past 2 years. Some people I’ve spoken to have even fallen back in love with their gardens with the extra time they’ve had due to the lock downs and not going on holiday.
So why do I open my garden to the public??? It is an opportunity to help the Nursing charities that the National Garden Scheme supports whilst sharing my love of gardening and my garden with others. My garden backs onto open fields and is rather describe it as tamed garden rooms which you will understand if you visit. I am passionate about helping hedgehogs and I have lots of wild borders and areas of long grass and unkempt and yes you will see weeds but I garden for the wildlife bees, butterflies, hedgehogs, garden birds even leaving strips of Clover on my lawns only mowing the a couple of times a month. I don’t use weed killer I’m not totally organic but only feed my garden with pelleted chicken manure or local well rotted manure.
So if you want to see for yourself why not come and visit my NGS open garden event on Sunday 29th May 12 noon – 4pm Rosemary Cottage 163 High Street Hook DN14 5PL Entry is £4 pp ( accompanied children are Free) all the entry money goes directly to the Nursing charities the National Garden scheme supports.
Just follow the yellow arrow NGS signs please use the free car park to access my garden. The field access is a little uneven so please take care and most of the garden is wheelchair friendly. There are no public toilets available but some seating will be provided for you to use but if you’d like to bring your own chair to guarantee you a seat.
I have invited several local stall holders making a lovely afternoon -Refreshments will be available to buy from The Nags Shed, delicious home baking stall fundraising for St Mary’s Church Hook Restoration fund, Market Weighton Hedgehogs ( raising funds for our local hedgehog rescues) Hook Gardening club fundraising stall, Crafty Goose with hand painted stones & slates and last but not least you can’t open your garden without a lovely Mires beck nursery plant stall!!
