Not quite sure what happened to January I must have hibernated but it was a very long month……
February ‘Fill Dyke’ has arrived and the snowdrops and helebores and starting to flower reminding us that the day are lengthening and spring is on its way.
My Honey bees did arrive a couple of weeks are go and they are starting to venture out on their ‘orientation flight’ on milder sunnier days and to spring clean their hive. My local Beekeeper whose hives they are visits weekly to check on them.

My garden is saturated I ventured out this morning just to blow the cobwebs away and swept my decking and rake any leaves off my lawns as I have some spring bulbs that are starting to poke through the grass. I planted some aconites and Chionodoxa in the autumn as well as Tete tete bulbs in my small lawn just outside my conservatory between my border and the stepping stones. They will be a lovely splash of colour in a few weeks.
The seeds I’d started sowing seeds on my windowsill propagator just tomatoes and chillis have germinated over the past few weeks. I’ve also sown some leeks, jacobs ladder, and another couple of varieties of tomato and chilli. I’ve also created a light box to help with the low light levels just for the next couple of months on my new plant staging. I’m planning a #socialdistancing Veg/herb plant and cake stall at the end of May for Hook Gardening Club fundraising just at the side of my cottage. It will be #nocontact cash only and a honesty box I will be there to chat from a distance it was a huge success last year and it was lovely for villagers to walk up and visit.
So as lockdown continues and no sign of a new job for me. I spend my days baking, doing jigsaws, teaching myself macrame, writing my monthly (voluntary) gardening column for Goole Times Newspaper, spending time in the garden when I can and keeping an eye on my elderly parents. The lack of social interaction with family and friends is difficult for all of us.
