Wow January 2021 is here….
But things will be different this year. Due the ongoing #Covid19 pandemic I have cancelled my NGS open day which should have been going ahead at the end of May it has been postponed until 2022.
But we must think positive at this difficult time and I have dusted off the electric windowsill propagator and decided its time to #getgrowing so I’ve sown Tomato and Chilli seeds. I’m also pre soaking some old sweet pea seeds that I collected a couple of years ago they’ve been sat in a jam jar so I’m hoping they are still viable #timewilltell.
Let’s get growing ..I never have much look with chillies but I like to experiment. I’ll sow some curled parsley in a couple of weeks and get these sweet peas into compost soon. #keepingfingerscrossed
Exciting news…. I’ve been approached by a local bee keeper asking if he can put a couple of honey bee hives at the end of my garden just in the field he is a member of Selby Bee Keepers aka Proper Yorkshire Honey you can follow him on Social media so #watchthisspace Hook Honey coming hopefully later this summer and you can see the hives and honey bees at work for yourself at my next open day in 2022. #savingourbees
So have I any garden projects for this year….? Not as such as I can think of at the moment but ideas often spring to mind. So in the mean time. As gardens often change, mature as they grow I’ve had to cut down my 2 Victoria Plum trees as they weren’t fruiting and the branches were suffering with some fungal disease but hey ho it’s all part of gardening I’ve also got a couple of apple trees I’m keeping an eye on as I suspect they have canker but I have pruned off diseased branches and the rest of the tree looks ok. The apple and pear trees fruited really well last year and I live in hope that my mirabelle plum will blossom for the first time this year its; 8ft tall and a lovely shape but up to now no blossom hoping 2021 will be the year. My Apricot tree blossomed for the first tome last year but as you know they flower very early and alas no pollination but with my honey bees this year they may help.
My Mistletoe growing experiment continues…. seeds continue to germinate and last spring I had the first bunny ear leaves so I’ve just ordered some more fresh mistletoe berries to squish the seeds from to smear on my apple tree branches with the other growing mistletoe Its a very slow growing process but once established by year 5-6 it is very productive or so I am told.
So let’s hope this year is a positive one for everyone and we all we all get back into our gardens when the weather allows. In the mean time I’m job hunting not sure what I want to do after almost 30 years as a Professional Nanny working all over the world maybe it’s time for a career change #theworldismyoyster as they say. #staysafe
